{"id":245,"date":"2020-07-03T11:56:56","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T18:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caam.tech\/?p=245"},"modified":"2020-07-03T11:56:57","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T18:56:57","slug":"caamtech-synthesizes-and-analyzes-the-salts-of-two-dmt-analogues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caam.tech\/caamtech-synthesizes-and-analyzes-the-salts-of-two-dmt-analogues\/","title":{"rendered":"CaaMTech Synthesizes and Analyzes the Salts of Two DMT Analogues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A paper published in <em>Acta Crystallographica<\/em> titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1107\/S2056989020008683\">DMT analogues: <em>N<\/em>-ethyl-<em>N<\/em>-propyl\u00adtryptamine and <em>N<\/em>-allyl-<em>N<\/em>-methytryptamine as their hydro\u00adfumarate salts<\/a>\u201d highlights some of CaaMTech\u2019s latest contributions to the scientific study of psychedelics. The paper reveals, for the very first time, the crystal structures of EPT hydrofumarate (the hydrofumarate salt of <em>N<\/em>-Ethyl-<em>N<\/em>-propyltryptamine, or Ethylpropyltryptamine) and MALT hydrofumarate (the hydrofumarate salt of <em>N<\/em>-methyl-<em>N<\/em>-allyltryptamine, or methylallyltryptamine). EPT and MALT are both structural analogues of DMT (<em>N<\/em>,<em>N<\/em>-Dimethyltryptamine, or simply dimethyltryptamine), a potent and rapidly-acting psychedelic colloquially referred to as \u201cThe Spirit Molecule.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DMT has been found to occur naturally in a variety of plants and is a traditional medicine of indigenous tribes of the Amazon basin. DMT is perhaps best known for its role as the psychedelic component of ayahuasca. Preparations containing DMT have been used for thousands of years amongst these tribes and the drug is highly regarded for its spiritual effects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite showing tremendous promise as a constituent of ayahuasca, DMT itself has several limitations, including a lack of oral activity. Making structural changes to the DMT molecule provides a library of DMT analogs, each with different properties. Two compounds in this library are EPT and MALT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDMT has enormous potential and it\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg,\u201d Dr. Andrew Chadeayne, CaaMTech CEO and lead author on the paper. \u201cEPT and MALT are the latest additions to CaaMTech\u2019s library of unique tryptamines, which provide access to a spectrum of effects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compounds such as EPT and MALT may reveal the small structural differences necessary to optimize DMT-like compounds for use as safe and effective medicines.
